Three Plumbing Appliances That Should Be on Your Spring Cleaning Checklist

Three Plumbing Appliances to Include on Your Spring-Cleaning Checklist

Now that spring has arrived, homeowners are gearing up to give their homes a deep cleaning. Typical spring-cleaning activities include scrubbing and dusting surfaces that are not given much attention at other times of the year and reorganizing the home. Unfortunately, not much thought is given to plumbing appliances during spring cleaning, which can sometimes lead to them breaking down. Since your plumbing appliances are going to get heavier use during your spring cleaning, you will want to add them to your spring-cleaning checklist. Three plumbing appliances must be given attention and TLC to ensure their longevity.

1. Hot Water Heater

Undoubtedly, your hot water heater will be getting a significant amount of use as you freshen up your home. Because of this, you want to do your due diligence to make sure it is in top shape. Check your hot water heater to make sure you do not see any rust or corrosion. If you spot rust or corrosion, this warrants an immediate call to a plumber for help as your hot water heater will need to be replaced. Even if you do not see rust or corrosion, you need to have a plumber professionally inspect your hot water heater to make sure all components are functioning properly. You should also have your hot water heater flushed to remove any sediment that may be sitting in your tank because too much sediment buildup can cause issues.

2. Washing Machine

Another plumbing appliance you want to put on your spring-cleaning checklist is the washing machine as it will also be used heavily during spring cleaning. Contact a plumber to come check the washing machine as well as the pipes and hoses that are connected to make certain it will continue to meet your needs. In addition to having a plumber inspect your washing machine, clean it out by pouring one cup of white vinegar and some laundry soap on the largest cycle and turning the temperature to hot. Make sure there are no clothes in the washer when you run the cycle because cleaning will be most effective when it is empty.

3. Dishwasher

The dishwasher is another plumbing appliance that is used quite a bit, so you cannot forget to add it to your spring-cleaning checklist. First, give your dishwasher a thorough cleaning. Pour two cups of white vinegar into the bottom of your dishwasher, and then run an empty cycle on hot. Second, have a professional inspect your dishwasher to make sure all components are functioning optimally. If you reside in Arvada, CO and want help with drain cleaning or another plumbing service, reach out to Flatirons Plumbing.
