Trenchless

What Every Homeowner Should Know About Trenchless Sewer Line Repair And Replacement

Every household in Boulder relies on a sewer line to get waste and dirty water from the house drains to the city sewer system. In the past, if that pipe should get damaged or wear out, homeowners were faced with some pretty upsetting options. A massive trench was needed to repair or replace the line. And the process was often very expensive and destructive to the property. Fortunately, trenchless repair and replacement techniques have made the process far less damaging to your yard and wallet.

How It Works

The first step is inserting a small camera inside the sewer line to assess the damage. A small section of damaged pipe can be repaired in most cases. However, if the entire pipe is damaged or deteriorating, a complete replacement is the solution. In both cases, an epoxy-coated liner is inserted into the existing line and expanded with a balloon-like bladder. The bladder holds the liner in place until the epoxy cures to form a new solid surface pipe inside the old damaged one. Then the liner is removed.

All of this work can be done from a small access hole near the end of the sewer line. So there is no longer the need to dig up the entire sewer line and destroy your yard.

The Benefits Of Trenchless Repairs And Replacements

  • Substantial Time Savings – As you can imagine, it takes a lot of time to dig up a sewer line for a repair or replacement. And then, it takes almost as long to backfill and carefully compact the soil to reduce the potential for sinking. The new process requires far less excavation, saving time and money.
  • Exceptional Life Expectancy – Older sewer line material was rated to have a maximum life expectancy of about 50 years, but many only saw about 40 years of reliable service. The seamless epoxy-coated liners used in trenchless repairs and sewer line replacements are rated at a minimum of 50 years, but they will exceed 75 years of dependability in many cases.
  • Minimal Destruction – Nothing is worse than seeing a massive scar across your finely-manicured lawn and landscape. When you opt for a trenchless sewer line repair or replacement, there is no need to worry about the destruction of your entire yard. That also means that you will be saving money on the cost of repairing and replanting your landscape once the sewer line issue is corrected. And there are no worries for future problems such as the sinkholes that are common after a deep trench or hole is backfilled.

Sewer line issues are always very upsetting because you never what to experience raw sewage backing up. But it is also upsetting to think about destroying your valuable landscape to make a repair or replacement.
